Size the base to the table top

The base footprint has to be wide enough to keep the top stable when a guest leans on the edge. Each base on our site lists the largest top it supports for every size. As examples, the 17″ Titan Cast Iron Table Base supports tops up to 32″ x 32″, the 22″ size up to 42″ x 42″, and the 30″ size up to 60″ round. Pick the size that covers your top with room to spare rather than the smallest that fits. Our table base sizing guide explains footprint, column diameter and top overhang in more detail.

Round, square, cross and 2-prong footprints

Round and square flat bases work well for square and round tops and keep a clean look under the table. 4-prong cross bases spread support to the corners and leave more foot room. 2-prong bases are used in pairs under long rectangular tops; the Apex Cast Iron Table Base includes 2-prong sizes for tops up to 96″ long and a 2-column version for tops up to 42″ x 120″. Some models, such as the Tower and Trestle, also come as 2-column bases for 30″ x 60″ or 36″ x 54″ tops.

Dining height vs. bar height

Most bases are offered in dining height and bar height. Dining-height tables pair with the chairs in our chairs collection, while bar-height tables pair with bar-height stools with a seat of about 29–31″. Decide on height first, since it changes which seating you order.

Cast iron, steel, stainless or brass

Cast iron table bases put weight low to the floor, which helps stability on larger tops; many, like the Obelisk Cast Iron Table Base, pair a cast iron foot with a 3″ steel column. Steel bases are lighter to move. Stainless steel models such as the Trestle Stainless Steel Table Base suit open kitchens and modern rooms, and the Cobble, Mortar, Girder, Truss and Rivet brass and black-and-brass bases add a warmer metal finish. Several models offer black powder coat, chrome or stainless options.

Indoor or outdoor

Bases marked Indoor/Outdoor are specially treated for outdoor use; see outdoor table bases for patio and rooftop tables. Use the other bases indoors. The full indoor range is also listed under indoor table bases.

Bolt-down and self-adjusting options

For booth tables or tables along a wall, bolt-down bases such as the Mortar, Truss and Parapet sizes fix to the floor and support tops up to 30″ x 30″ or 36″ round per base (42″ round on the Parapet), with multiple bases for larger tops. All bases come with adjustable glides, and the Axis offers optional self-adjusting glides for uneven floors.

Assembly and what's included

Bases ship unassembled: the column, base and top plate bolt together, and hardware is included. Table tops are sold separately, so pair your base with one of our table tops in laminate, solid wood, stone or aluminum.

Pricing, minimums and shipping

There is no minimum order on bases, so you can buy one replacement or outfit an entire room. Pricing drops automatically as quantity rises, and 100 or more bases qualify for a volume quote. We ship across the U.S. and Canada with live freight rates at checkout, and big orders go out on pallets by LTL freight.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right table base size?

Check the largest top listed for each base size and choose one that covers your top. For example, a 22″ round base on several models supports tops up to 42″ x 42″ or 30″ x 48″. For long rectangular tops, use two 2-prong bases or a 2-column base.

Do table bases come with a top?

No. Table tops are sold separately. Each base includes the column, foot, top plate and hardware, and ships unassembled. Browse our table tops in laminate, solid wood, stone and aluminum to complete the table.

Which table bases can go outdoors?

Bases marked Indoor/Outdoor, such as the Meridian, Crest, Crown, Summit, Tower, Corbel and Lintel, are specially treated for outdoor use. On the Crest, the black base is the outdoor-treated finish. Other bases are for indoor use.

Are cast iron table bases better than steel?

Cast iron adds weight at the floor, which helps keep larger tops steady and resists tipping. Steel bases are lighter and easier to rearrange. Both are commercial grade; choose based on top size, how often you move tables, and the look you want.

How fast do restaurant table bases ship?

Bases are in stock and typically ship in 2–3 days from order and payment. There is no minimum order, and the per-base price drops as quantity rises. Orders of 100 or more bases can request a volume quote.
