Match stool height to the counter or bar

Getting height right matters more than any other choice. Bar-height stools, with a seat height of about 29–31″, go with 40–42″ bar tops and bar-height tables. Counter stools with a 24–26″ seat go with 36″ counters. Nearly every restaurant bar stool in this collection lists a seat height between roughly 29.5″ and 31.25″, which makes them bar height; the Walden Bar Stool lists 29.75″ and the Fletcher Bar Stool lists 31.25″. Measure from the floor to the underside of your bar top, allow about 10–12″ of leg room, and compare against the seat height on each product page. Our bar stool height guide walks through the measurement in more detail.

Frame materials

wood frame bar stools use solid European beechwood and are offered in a wide range of stains, which makes it easy to match existing millwork or dining chairs. metal frame bar stools use welded frames and include "wood grain" metal finishes that give the look of timber with the durability of steel. For rooftop bars, pool bars and patios, aluminum frame bar stools are rated for indoor and outdoor use. Wood-frame stools are for indoor, conditioned spaces only.

Backs, backless and swivel seats

A back gives guests somewhere to settle in for a longer visit and suits hotel bars and restaurants that seat diners at the bar. backless stools slide fully under a counter, keep sightlines open and work well for quick-turn service and drink rails. swivel bar stools let guests turn to talk or get in and out without dragging the stool; the Kingsley Swivel Bar Stool pairs a swivel seat with metal "wood grain" legs, and the beechwood Lennox Bar Stool is offered with a fixed or swivel seat.

Upholstered, wood or HPL seats

upholstered bar stools are the most comfortable for long stays; faux leather options such as the Rockwell Bar Stool clean with a damp cloth. Wood seats are easy to wipe down and hold up to spills at a busy service bar. The Quarry Bar Stool and Crestwood Bar Stool use a walnut or oak HPL (high-pressure laminate) seat and back on a black metal frame, a practical choice where stools see heavy traffic.

How many stools fit your bar

Plan roughly 24″ of bar length per stool so guests have elbow room and staff can reach between them. A 12-foot bar fits about six stools on that spacing. Check each stool's listed width; most in this range run about 16–21″ wide, which leaves comfortable space between seats at 24″ centers.

Durability, warranty and shipping

Every stool is contract-grade, tested to 400 lbs and built to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards, with a 3-year frame warranty and 1-year finish and upholstery warranty. Stools ship fully assembled. In-stock models typically ship in 2–3 days; beechwood stools stained to order in your chosen finish ship in 2–3 weeks and, like custom-upholstered stools, can't be cancelled or returned.

Volume pricing for bar stools

Most stools have a 4-piece minimum per item, and you can mix finishes of the same stool. Pricing tiers step down at 6, 20, 60 and 100 pieces, applied automatically in the cart, and 100+ stools qualify for a volume quote. We ship throughout the U.S. and Canada with live freight rates at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

What seat height do I need for a bar?

For a 40–42″ bar top or bar-height table, choose a bar-height stool with a seat of about 29–31″. For a 36″ counter, you need a counter stool with a 24–26″ seat. Most stools in this collection list seat heights of roughly 29.5–31.25″, which is bar height.

Can these commercial bar stools be used outdoors?

The aluminum frame bar stools, such as the Keel, Palmetto, Shoreline and Sandbar, are rated for indoor and outdoor use and are UV-resistant. Wood-frame bar stools are made for indoor, conditioned spaces only.

Do bar stools arrive assembled?

Yes. All seating ships fully assembled, so stools are ready for service when they come off the pallet. Larger orders ship palletized by LTL freight to addresses in the U.S. and Canada.

How much space should I allow per bar stool?

Plan about 24″ of bar length per stool. That gives guests elbow room and lets staff reach the bar between seats. A 12-foot bar fits about six stools at that spacing.

What is the minimum order and how does volume pricing work?

Most stools have a 4-piece minimum per item, and finishes of the same stool can be mixed. The price per stool drops automatically at 6, 20, 60 and 100 pieces. For 100 or more stools you can request a volume quote.
