Choosing restaurant chairs by frame material

The frame decides where a chair can go and how it holds up. Our wood frame chairs are built on solid European beechwood, most with mortise-and-tenon joinery, and belong in indoor, conditioned dining rooms. metal frame chairs use welded rather than bolted frames; models such as the Quarry Side Chair and Crestwood Side Chair pair a black metal frame with a walnut or oak HPL seat and back that wipes down quickly between turns. For patios, rooftops and sidewalk seating, aluminum frame chairs and poly-molded chairs are UV-resistant and suited to year-round outdoor use.

Upholstered seat or hard seat

An upholstered seat adds comfort for longer meals in hotel dining rooms, steakhouses and lounges. Hard seats in wood, HPL, polypropylene or metal clean fastest and suit high-turnover cafés and fast-casual rooms. Many beechwood models, including the Carver Side Chair and Whitman Side Chair, come with either a wood seat or an upholstered seat, so one design can run through the whole space with different seat options by zone. Side chairs vs. arm chairs

Side chairs take less floor space and tuck closer to the table, which is why they make up most commercial dining rooms. arm chairs give guests more support and work well at the ends of long tables, in window seating and on terraces, but they are wider. The Mist Arm Chair measures 26.25″ wide compared with 18.25″ for the matching Mist Side Chair, so plan fewer arm chairs per table or use larger tops where they go.

Planning seat count and spacing

A reliable starting point is about 24″ of table edge per seat. A 30″ x 48″ top seats four with side chairs, two along each long side, while a 30″ x 30″ top suits a two-top. Check each chair's listed seat height and width on its product page before you finalize the plan; most of our dining chairs list seat heights between roughly 17″ and 20″. When you are ready for tables, pair your chairs with table bases and table tops sized for the same layout.

Every chair on this page is contract-grade: tested to 400 lbs and built to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards. Chairs arrive fully assembled, so there is no hardware to tighten before service. Frames carry a 3-year structural warranty and finishes and upholstery carry a 1-year warranty, both from the ship date.

In-stock chairs typically ship in 2–3 days from order and payment. Some beechwood frames are stained to order in the finish you choose and ship in 2–3 weeks; stained-to-order and custom-upholstered pieces can't be cancelled or returned, so confirm finish and seat choices before checkout. Most chairs have a 4-piece minimum per item, and you can mix finishes or seat options of the same model to reach it.

Volume pricing is built into the cart. Per-chair price steps down at 6, 20, 60 and 100 pieces, and orders of 100 or more can request a volume quote. We ship anywhere in the U.S. and Canada with live freight rates at checkout, and larger orders ship palletized by LTL freight. If you need a finish or fabric that isn't listed, custom finishes, fabrics and COM are available by quote, typically in 14–20 weeks.

The price per chair drops automatically as quantity rises, with tiers at 1–5, 6–19, 20–59, 60–99 and 100+ pieces. The cart applies the tier for you. For 100 or more chairs you can also request a volume quote.

Which chairs can I use outdoors?

Use the aluminum frame and poly-molded chairs, and any chair marked Indoor/Outdoor. They are UV-resistant and suited to year-round outdoor use. Wood-frame chairs are made for indoor, conditioned spaces and should not be left outside.
