Why a metal frame
Bar stools get pushed, dragged, kicked and climbed on more than any other seat. Welded metal frames have no bolted joints to loosen, and every stool is tested to 400 lbs and built to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards. That makes metal a strong fit for busy bars that seat hundreds of guests a night.
Seat materials
- HPL: the Quarry Bar Stool and Crestwood Bar Stool have walnut or oak HPL seats and backs on black metal frames.
- Solid wood: the Morrow Bar Stool uses solid oak, the Fairfield and Cortland solid beechwood, and the Dorset an ash seat.
- Upholstered: the Rockwell, Hudson and Fletcher add padded seats and backs.
Wood grain metal
Models such as the Sterling Metal Frame Bar Stool use a "wood grain" metal frame in walnut or oak color, for a wood look with metal durability. Stools like these suit rooms that mix wood dining chairs with a hard-wearing bar.
Backless options
The Holloway and Whitby are backless metal stools with solid ash seats; see backless stools.
Height and pricing
Listed seat heights run about 29.5–31.25″ on fixed-height models, which is bar height for 40–42″ bar tops. See the bar stool height guide for measuring. Order at least 4 of each stool; per-stool pricing then steps down at 6, 20, 60 and 100 pieces. For matching dining seating, browse metal frame chairs.
Cleaning
Metal frames and HPL seats wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. HPL resists scratches from keys and belt buckles, which is why it is a common choice at busy counters. Wood seats should be wiped and dried rather than soaked.
