Café & Coffee Shop Furniture

Coffee shops and cafés run on small footprints and steady turnover. Guests might stay five minutes or three hours, and the room has to work for both. The right café chairs and tables make a small space seat more people without feeling cramped. Contract Seating For Less carries in-stock café furniture – compact table tops, bistro-size bases, chairs and bar stools – for coffee shops, bakeries and cafés across the U.S. and Canada.

Café chairs

Café chairs should be light enough to move, easy to clean and comfortable for a long stay with a laptop. A few in-stock options:

  • The Cortland Side Chair pairs a metal frame with a solid European beechwood seat and back (seat height 18.25″), a classic café look.
  • The Quarry Side Chair has a black metal frame with a walnut or oak HPL seat and back – a hard, wipeable surface for busy counters.
  • The Sheffield Side Chair uses a solid European beechwood frame with an upholstered seat for a softer sit.
  • The Isle Side Chair is a stackable polypropylene chair in eight colors, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, so it can move between the dining room and a sidewalk patio.

Compact café tables

Small tops are the backbone of a café floor plan. Using about 24″ of table edge per seat as a guide, a 24″ x 24″ square or 24″ round works for one or two guests with drinks, while a 30″ x 30″ top gives two guests room for plates and laptops. Squares can be pushed together for groups.

  • The Uptown 1.5″ Laminate Table Top is a 1.5″ commercial laminate top in sizes from 24″ x 24″, in Espresso, Light Grey, Oak or Walnut. It ships in 1–2 weeks and is for indoor use.
  • The Heirloom Walnut Butcher Block Table Top is 1.5″ solid American black walnut butcher block with a commercial-grade PU coating, available in 24″, 30″, 36″, 42″ and 48″ rounds as well as squares and rectangles. It ships in 1–2 weeks and is for indoor use.

Bistro bases

A small top needs a base with a small footprint, so chair legs and feet don’t collide with it. Several of our bases come in bistro-friendly sizes:

All three are offered in dining or bar height and have adjustable glides for uneven floors. Bases ship unassembled; the column, base and top plate bolt together, with hardware included. See all indoor table bases.

Window counters and high-tops

Window bars and high-tops add seats in spaces too narrow for tables. A bar-height counter of 40–42″ pairs with bar height stools that have a seat of about 29–31″. The Walden Bar Stool has a metal frame with an upholstered seat (seat height 29.75″). Allow about 24″ of counter per stool. Browse all bar stools.

Laying out a small café

In a compact room, the counter and queue come first: mark out where guests line up, where they wait for drinks and where staff move between the bar and the tables. Seating fits around that path. A mix works well in most cafés – a few two-tops for conversation, a larger table or pushed-together squares for groups, and window or wall counters for solo guests with laptops. Small bases matter here: a 15″ or 17″ spread leaves more room for chair legs and feet around a small top than a larger base would. Keep chairs to one or two models so the room reads as a whole, and use color or finish to add variety within that model.

Sidewalk and patio seating

If your café has outdoor seating, use items marked Indoor/Outdoor. Poly-molded chairs are UV-resistant and suited for year-round outdoor use, and HPL or aluminum-frame tops are rated for outdoor use. See our outdoor patio dining furniture page for more.

Ordering for a café

  • Most seating has a minimum of 4 pieces per item; you can mix finishes or colors of the same item.
  • Tops and bases have no minimum, so a small shop can order exactly what it needs.
  • In-stock chairs and bases typically ship in 2–3 days from order and payment; seating ships fully assembled.
  • Seating is tested to 400 lbs, built to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards and carries a 3-year frame warranty.
