When to choose arm chairs

Arms give guests support getting in and out and make longer meals more comfortable. They work well at the heads of long tables, in lounge-style patio seating and in hotel outdoor dining. Many operators mix a few arm chairs with side chairs of the same design, which is easy because most arm chairs here have a matching side chair.

Plan for extra width

Commercial dining armchairs take more room than side chairs. The Mist Arm Chair is 26.25″ wide and the Sunset Arm Chair 25″, compared with about 17–21″ for most side chairs. Use the 24″-per-seat guideline as a minimum and allow more where arm chairs sit side by side, or check that the arms clear your table apron.

Frames and seats

  • Aluminum: the Sandbar Arm Chair and Keel with synthetic wood slats, Shoreline with faux wood aluminum slats, and Anchor, Seabrook, Dune and Sunset in faux wicker.
  • Polypropylene: the Lagoon Arm Chair and Tide, one-piece and easy to hose clean.
  • Metal: the Harbor, with a mesh seat and back.

Matching and storage

Browse aluminum frame chairs and poly-molded chairs for the matching side chairs. All arm chairs here stack, which helps when you store patio seating at close.

Ordering

The minimum is 4 per item. Pricing drops at 6, 20, 60 and 100 chairs, and 100+ can request a volume quote.

Cleaning and upkeep

Aluminum and poly arm chairs rinse clean with mild soap and water, and mesh seats dry quickly after rain. Check that arms clear your table apron when chairs are pushed in; a chair that bumps the apron wears both pieces over time.

Frequently asked questions

How much space does a restaurant arm chair need?

Plan on at least 24″ of table edge per seat, and more where arm chairs sit side by side. Our arm chairs range up to 26.25″ wide, so check each chair's listed width against your table size.

Can these arm chairs be used outdoors?

Yes. The arm chairs in this category are rated for indoor and outdoor use and are UV-resistant, so they are suited to year-round use on patios, terraces and pool decks.

Do arm chairs have matching side chairs?

Most do. The Sandbar, Keel, Shoreline, Mist, Anchor, Seabrook and Dune come in both arm and side chair versions, so you can mix them at the same tables.

Are the arm chairs stackable?

Yes. Every arm chair in this category stacks, which makes it practical to clear a patio at close or store extra seating between seasons and events.
